LA Marine - Key Contacts

Russell heads up the LA Marine team. His practice covers a broad spectrum of legal issues from vessel sale, purchase and finance to ship building and repair contracts, collisions and groundings, casualty investigations, vessel arrests and prosecutions for breaches of Merchant Shipping Regulations and harbour bye-laws. Russell is a supporting member of the London Maritime Arbitrators Association (LMAA). He was formerly a partner in a specialist shipping law firm in London.

Linda specialises in all aspects of shipping and logistics law involving the carriage of goods by sea and land, covered by charterparties, bills of lading and CMR documents. She has considerable experience of London arbitration including LMAA and GAFTA arbitration as well as multi-jurisdictional disputes in those areas. Linda also advises on offshore and shipbuilding disputes. She has dealt with a wide range of contract disputes in shipping and logistics involving claims for damage to vessels and cargo. Linda acts for insurers and owners, operating in the shipping and logistics sector worldwide. Linda was formerly a partner at HFW.

Philippa, who has a background in P&I and at an international shipping law firm in London, has a broad practice covering both commercial shipping and the leisure marine sector. Philippa advises on contentious and non-contentious issues involving charterparties, sale and purchase transactions, newbuild contracts, maritime casualties and regulatory matters. Her clients range from international ship operators, marine insurers, brokers and banks to local yacht owners and port and harbour authorities.

Jennie advises on a wide range of disputes across the leisure marine and superyacht and small commercial sectors including disputes arising from technical design and build defects, contractual disputes, collisions and marine insurance disputes including matters relating to coverage and avoidance for fraud, misrepresentation and non-disclosure. Jennie also deals with maritime regulatory work including breaches of the Merchant Shipping Act 1995 and fisheries licensing and advises port and harbour authorities on regulatory matters.

Alongside handling sale, purchase and vessel finance transactions, Lucy deals with breach of contract disputes, racing collisions, insurance claims and marine related personal injury cases, including Coroner’s inquests. Lucy has particular expertise in vessel arrests and her considerable sailing experience enables her to provide comprehensive advice on a wide range of matters from both a legal and practical perspective.

As part of the LA Marine team, Laura handles London arbitrations and multi-jurisdictional shipping and logistics disputes. Her experience covers matters in LMAA and ad-hoc arbitrations, mediations, High Court cases and Court of Appeal applications. Laura has experience in port congestion, COVID-related delays, and experience in charterparty disputes including breaches, force majeure, hull fouling and speed and performance claims. She has worked on yacht charter and yacht contract disputes. Laura acts for ship-owners, charterers, freight forwarders, operators and their respective insurers.

Brodie specialises in contentious matters and advises on a range of marine disputes including breach of contract, negligence, debt recovery and collisions. She also deals with insurance claims, handling both subrogated insurance recovery and insured loss recovery claims.

George assists with a range of marine disputes including debt recovery, collisions and contractual claims. George also handles yacht registrations for the UK Shipping Registers (MCA, Guernsey and Jersey) on behalf of finance houses and their customers, alongside private individuals.

Emma registers yachts on behalf of finance houses and their customers as well as private individuals and advises on the suitability of vessel title documentation for registration with the various UK Shipping Registers (MCA, Guernsey and Jersey).
